engineering the eye : June 25 - july 1
Join us at Srujana Center for Innovation, L. V. Prasad Eye Institute for the edition of Engineering the Eye.
This time we've got the best of both worlds, technology and medicine. A platform for engineers, clinicians, designers, technology aficionados, innovators, big dreamers and change makers to build the next generation of healthcare technologies which would impact people over 5 Billion in the developing world and 2 Billion in the developed.
In Hyderabad, in addition to year long research & development L. V. Prasad Eye Institute's clinicians and engineers from MIT meet every monsoon and co-organize the Engineering the Eye Camp with innovators from all across the globe.
This edition we complete a full circle from inception. It's been 5 years since the first edition of this workshop took place. We showcase 5 projects that have come from ideation to impact. We also focus on finding the next 5 ideas in Eye Care that have the potential to change the world as we see it today!
The theme is 'Hi - 5' - we come to reignite, reinvigorate and re-inject the world with the best of Technology and Medicine to enhance Eye Care.
Join us this Monsoon '17 for the 5th edition taking place at the L V Prasad Eye Institute, Kallam Anji Reddy Campus at Banjara Hills, Hyderabad
What to expect
LEARN ABOUT KEY HEALTH CONCEPTS
LVPEI and MIT will bring in some of the world’s leading researchers, doctors, scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs to teach ReDx participants about key areas for health diagnostics, analysis, and treatment. You will learn the key concepts of these diseases and treatments as well as the scientific approaches that are currently being used to analyze and diagnose them.
BUILD WITH MIT AND LVPEI INVENTORS
Most projects use a unique combination of hardware and software to achieve the results required. Thus, depending on the project, you can expect to learn about electronics, software languages, mathematical models and algorithms, optics, and more.
Test and Iterate in the field with Patients, Users, and Doctors
Historically, we have found that the strongest teams have the best understanding of their patients, doctors, and users. They constantly go out and try to understand the behaviors and procedures that patients undergo. This is an opportunity to get out of the building with the devices you build and learn from real feedback rather than just “building in a bubble.”
Be a part of a growing innovation community
For the last few years, ReDx has garnered a large following of makers, builders, hackers, scientists, and more. We believe this community to be the most valuable part of the ReDx experience. You will learn more from your fellows than we could ever teach you and, who knows, they may be your collaborators in the future some day.
Launch your career
Projects have spawned amazing collaborations with companies, research institutions, and communities. Some projects turn into greater efforts at MIT or at LVP-MITRA and others have the potential to turn into hugely impactful startups. Regardless of where a project goes, our alumni of innovators have experienced phenomenal growth in their personal skills and career paths through the network they have built and the projects they have persisted with.
